Redskins 'Strongly Disagree' with Harry Reid About Name Change

Can we let go of the whole Redskins racist name change thing? What about the Atlanta Braves? Or how about Cleveland Indians? The fighting Irish? The Cleveland Browns? The Vikings? I could go on and on. The fact is, it doesn't matter what we do or what we say, someone out there is going to be offended. It's time to put on our big boy underwear America. Stop acting like you get your precious little feelings hurt every time something tickles your little ear.

On Thursday, the Washington Redskins said they "strongly disagree" with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-NV) opinion that the football team should change their name.

"The Redskins respect Senator Reid, and he is, of course, entitled to his opinion," the team told The Hill. "However, we strongly disagree based on what we are hearing from Native Americans and based on the generations of pride and heritage that our name represents."

On Wednesday, Reid told the publication that Redskins owner Dan Snyder "is so short-sighted" in not changing the name.

“We live in a society where you can’t denigrate a race of people," he said. "And that’s what that is. I mean you can’t have the Washington Blackskins. I think it’s so short-sighted.”

As Breitbart Sports has reported, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said that even "if one person is offended," the NFL has to listen even though nearly 80% of Americans, according to most recent AP poll, do not believe the Redskins should change their name. In addition, Snyder has vowed that he would "NEVER" change the team's name, but has been under increasing pressure to consider a name change.
