I don't have to tell you things are bad. Everybody
knows things are bad. It's a depression. Everybody's out of work or scared of
losing their job. The dollar buys a nickel's worth, banks are going bust, and
shopkeepers keep a gun under the counter. Punks are running wild in the street
and there's nobody anywhere who seems to know what to do, and there's no end to
it. We know the air is unfit to breathe and our food is unfit to eat, and we
sit watching our TVs while some local newscaster tells us that today we had
fifteen homicides and sixty-three violent crimes, as if that's the way it's
supposed to be! We know things are bad - worse than bad, they’re crazy! It's
like everything everywhere is going crazy, so we don't go out anymore. We sit
in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all
we say is, 'Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my
toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just
leave us alone!' Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone! I want you to get MAD! I
don't want you to protest. I don't want you to riot - I don't want you to write
to your congressman because I wouldn't know what to tell you to write. I don't
know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the
crime in the street. All I know is that first you've got to get mad! You've got
to say, "I'm a HUMAN BEING, DAMMIT! My LIFE has VALUE!!" So, I want
you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you
to get up right now, and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and
yell: "I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!!"
I want you to get up right now, sit up, go to your windows, open them and stick
your head out and yell - 'I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this
anymore!' Things have got to change. But first, you've gotta get mad! You've
got to say, 'I'm as mad as hell, and I'm not going to take this anymore!' Then
we'll figure out what to do about the depression and the inflation and the oil
crisis. But first get up out of your chairs, open the window, stick your head
out, and yell, and say it: I'M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I'M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS
ANYMORE!!!
The above is a quote from the 1976 movie,
"Network". These lines and many others to follow are spoken by Howard
Beale (played by Peter Finch) as he is tired of working for Union Broadcasting
System's Evening News. Perhaps you should re-watch it or watch it for the first
time. Talk about similarities to today! But the thing is, in 1976, this movie
was considered "satirical", now it is just reality. Check out these
quotes:
You're beginning to believe the illusions we're
spinning here, you're beginning to believe that the tube is reality and your
own lives are unreal. You do. Why, whatever the tube tells you: you dress like
the tube, you eat like the tube, you raise your children like the tube, you
even think like the tube. This is mass madness, you maniacs. In God's name, you
people are the real thing, WE are the illusion.Right now, there is a whole, an entire generation
that never knew anything that didn't come out of this tube. This tube is the
gospel, the ultimate revelation; this tube can make or break presidents, popes,
prime ministers; this tube is the most awesome damn propaganda force in the
whole godless world, and woe is us if it ever falls into the hands of the wrong
people, and that's why woe is us that Edward George Ruddy died. Because this
company is now in the hands of CCA, the Communications Corporation of America;
there's a new chairman of the board, a man called Frank Hackett, sitting in Mr.
Ruddy's office on the twentieth floor. And when the 12th largest company in the
world controls the most awesome damn propaganda force in the whole godless
world, who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on this network?
The plot of the entire movie could apply to today's
MSM and people are doing the same thing that they always have. There is nothing
new under the sun. They go about their lives and could really give a crap about
what is really going on. We live in a time where information is abundant and it
is at the tip of our fingertips at a moment’s notice, yet we have more
un-informed people among us than ever before. The problem? People don't want to
have to find the truth for themselves anymore. They are content with listening
to the propaganda and believing the likes of Barbara Walters when she says
Obama is the Messiah. But now, things are "getting bad" and a few
more people are "waking up" but not nearly enough.
In the movie, Howard Beale said he wasn't telling
people to riot or to protest. He simply called for them to go to their window
and shout, "I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore."
Today, our window is Facebook, twitter, blogger, word press, tumblr, and I
could go on and on. There are VERY few people who are not on some sort of
social media. USE IT! If WE THE PEOPLE do not stand against this tyranny and
all the socialist/communist crap, then we will never be able to rise from our
knees again. While we are still on our feet, now is the time to stand, dammit!
Let government know that we are MAD AS HELL, AND WE AREN'T GOING TO TAKE IT
ANYMORE! Write a letter to your Congressman...say what you want. Tell them we
aren't going to take it. Put the GOP on notice that if they choose the way of
the left, then they will be voted out! Say goodbye to the turncoats and stand
with people who actually care about America and Americans. They are out there
but they need our support. If you do not start doing something now, I promise
we will be left with a Chris Christie/Hillary primary. And let me ask you this.
Between those two...What the hell difference would it make? The (R) after
Christies name isn't for Republican. More likely it's for ROTUND! And that (D)
after Hillary? Damnation!
Get mad, dammit! If you don't, you have no right to
gripe about it later as you are reminiscing about the "old days" to
your kids and grandkids. Telling them about an America that used to be. They will have no
idea and will hopefully wonder why you didn't do something to stop it. And you will have to bear that shame until they come to take you for your final shower.
I understand how you feel, it's why I started blogging, but often I feel like it's all a hopeless lost cause. I gotta compliment you one more time on your site. It looks really professional. Good job.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I'm trying to figure out how to add tabs at the top now. I would like to add the constitution, bill of rights and federalist papers. Maybe somebody might read them.
